HOW TO RENEW MY US PASSPORT


Many people realize that their passport is expired when they already book a vacation to an international location.
Here i will tech you, how to renew it and to avoid future headaches.

1- PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXPIRATION DATE: This is easier to say than done, other way i will not be writing about it. But like your health, finances and children we must pay attention to those detail, who will make our live miserable at some point, and can be fix so easily with a little time, by just paying attention now.

2- FILL OUT THE RENEWAL APPICATION (DS-82) We use this option if we are traveling in no less than 3 weeks (I recommend 4 weeks in advance). Fill out the application completely.

Now, to renew by mail we need to have this 5 criterias.

1-Is submitted with your application

2-Is undamaged (other than normal "wear and tear")

3-Was issued when you were age 16 or older

4-Was issued within the last 15 years

5-Was issued in your current name (or you can document your name change with an original or certified copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order

NOW WHO CAN NOT RENEW A US PASSPORT?
  • Damage Passport – If your passport is damaged, and would not be able to verify information according to State Department requirements.
  • Limited Passport – Owe taxes or child support this would need to be resolved with the agency before applying for a renewal.
  • Old Expired Passport – Expired Passport was expired more than 15 years ago.
  • Child Passport – A child passport is an issue for 5 years, and cannot be renewed.
  • Tax Issues – If you have serious tax debt with the IRS you would not be able to be issued a passport renewal stating 1st January 2018

Selecting a U.S. Renewal Processing Option

The time it takes to renew your expired passport depends on where and when you apply for your passport renewal. Applying via mail it could take as much as six weeks or more to get your passport renewed.

If you have expedited travel plans you could apply by going to your regional passport agency with all of the required documents or you could apply by using one of the passport expediting companies to get your passport in as little as 24 hours.

Traveling after 30 days:

When mailing your expired passport with passport documents it is advised that you place all your documents into a The envelope. This will ensure that your passport documents will arrive safely at the processing center. This method will take 4-6 weeks.

If you want to get your passport expedite via the State Department, you need to add a fee of $60 and on the front of the envelope write “Expedite”. MAIL the sealed package to the following address. This will take 3-4 weeks:

If you need to get your passport in less time go to the post office,  and get expedite services.

You can get your expired passport renewed via post offices. These passport offices have all required documents such as DS-82 forms, and other related requirements you need to get your passport renewed.

The cost is determined by the type of passport services you are looking for such as expedited or regular processing. 

How long will it take to renew a passport?
Processing time for a passport renewal will be determined by the type of renewal services you need. There are three types of renewal services which are regular, expedited services with post offices, and expedited renewal with the regional passport agency.
Regular Renewal – 6 to 8 Weeks
Expedited Renewal with Post Offices – 4 to 6 Weeks
Renewal with Regional Passport Agency – Same day services at some agency.
Renewal with Private Expediting Company – Same day services
How long before my passport expired should I renew it?
It is recommended that you renew your passport book nine months before your passport expires. This will give the State Department enough time to get your new passport back to you.
When I renew my passport will I get my old passport book back?
Yes in most cases you will get back your old passport book with a hole punch into it.
