In this chapter i want to take time to explain the new Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which provided additional flexibility for state unemployment insurance agencies and additional administrative funding to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27. It expands states’ ability to provide unemployment insurance for many workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including for workers who are not ordinarily eligible for unemployment benefits.
On March 18, 2020, the president Trump signed into law and is already in effect and many people are already taking the benefits.
WHAT IS IT? Is just Unemployment Insurance in Steroids (basically) you will get the unemployment benefit plus $600 per week additionally. The NY state remove the 1 week waiting period for people who are out of work due to the Coronavirus (COVID_19) closures or quarantines. Also people who usually do not qualify like self employed or independent contractor, qualify for this. Another area is that regularly you can get up to 26 weeks of unemployment but due to the Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program you can get additional 13 weeks.
Something weird about this program is that some people will be making more money in unemployment than when they were actually working, i still don't know the basic but some people will rather stay without job until they totally exhausted all the benefits.
HOW DO YOU GET IT? is simple just apply for unemployment with your state department of labor.
WHEN SHOULD FILE FOR IT? you should file your claim in the first week, that you worked less than 4 weeks.
CAN I APPLY IF I LOST ONE JOB BUT STILL HAVE ANOTHER? yes but only if you work less than 4 days in the remaining job. the Amount you will receive will be adjusted by quarters per day worked.
